When God Feels Like A Frenemy
You may have frenemies: enemies posing or camouflaged as friends (hopefully not), but really aren’t for you or have your best interest at heart at all. When life gets unpredictable, hard, unpleasant, and feels like more of a burden than a blessing, do you begin to question God’s plan, loyalty, love, and concern for you? Sometimes, life will throw you many curve balls that you weren’t expecting. When you add the struggles to conceive, or the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) journey and beyond, the curve balls begin to feel like balls of fire being thrown at you. These fire, curve balls may present themselves in the form of a poor response to the fertility drugs that help stimulate the ovaries, a preemie’s discharge date gets pushed back because they failed their car seat test, or you experience the tragic loss of your baby. All of these things will make you question God’s love for you, and whether He’s truly for you or against you. Consequently, you may go on with life feeling defeated, angry….at God, bitter, jealous, resentful, and the list of emotions can go on. If you can relate, and have recently been feeling this way, I want to readjust your perception of the Father. I want to remind you of His nature, and His heart towards you.
Jesus. God, Daddy, our Father isn’t your frenemy. Despite your struggles and feeling defeated on your journey; despite questioning His will for your life and wondering when it will happen for you, He truly loves you and wants what’s best for you. He’ll never walk away from you; He’ll never leave you (Hebrews 13:5b). He’s not plotting for the demise of your dream for motherhood and a healthy baby. But, He’s plotting and orchestrating your future. Jeremiah 29:11 (MSG) states:
'I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out-
plans to take care of you,not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for.
The Father’s plan for your life is perfect. Does it feel perfect right now, I’m sure it’s doesn’t. He doesn’t promise you a life free of hardships, trials, or problems, but He does promise to give you the future you hope for, according to His perfect will for your life. He has plans to take care of you in the midst of that cancelled IVF (In vitro fertilization) cycle, or the tragic loss of your precious angel baby. Hand over all of your worries, hurts, and cares to Him: He cares for you, will take care of you, and see you through it all (1 peter 5:7). We truly do have a friend in Jesus, and He’s concerned about EVERY area and thing concerning you. His love for you is unconditional, never gives up, and never runs out! He laid down His life for you, His friend, and there’s no greater love than that (John 15:13). He can be trusted, He’s your friend not your frenemy.
