9 Ways to Make Preparations During The Wait For Motherhood
Like me just a year and a half ago, you may be trying to conceive (ttc). I know personally, you’re dealing with something that’s beyond your control, especially during a diagnosis of infertility and a desire for your chance at motherhood. A diagnosis of infertility makes you feel that you’ll never become a mother. It makes you feel like and question if you did something to deserve a diagnosis that impedes your ability to get pregnant. I know I felt that way, among other things that I’ve felt during during my time of trying for another baby.
Even so, I want to encourage by reminding you of God’s promises to you:
Isaiah 41:10 “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand (NLT).”
Luke 1:13-14 (NLT), “But the angel said, “Don’t be afraid, Zechariah! God has heard your prayer. Your wife, Elizabeth will give you a son, and you are to name him John. You will have great joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth.”
Both of these scriptures begin by telling you “DO NOT BE AFRAID!” In Isaiah God says do not be afraid because I’m with you. In Luke He says do not be afraid because I’ve heard your prayer. If God tells us to not be afraid because He is with us, and He’s heard our prayer, we should take Him at His word—literally! Even when our natural experiences of wanting to become a mother makes us feel fearful, God says DO NOT BE AFRAID.
He is giving you strength; He is holding you up with His victorious right hand. He is hearing your prayer for a baby, and just like Zechariah and Elizabeth you will be able to rejoice at his/her birth. God desires that you believe Him…trust Him…be confident in Him, and have faith in Him. It is when you and I completely have faith in His ability to heal ANY sickness (if you’re desiring healing in your reproductive system), and open your womb to conceive that He can truly manifest His glory. I am a living testament to this. In 2015 I learned that He’d completely healed my right Fallopian tube that was diagnosed as severely scarred 3 years prior. The fertility specialist (Reproductive Endocrinologists- RE) told my husband after an emergency laparoscopy in February 2012 that we’d never be able to conceive naturally because my left fallopian tube was blocked, and my right was scarred; therefore, being unable to get the fertilized egg to my uterus. 3 years later after a lot of prayer and faith God confirmed that he’d healed and COMPLETELY opened my right tube during my Hysterosalpingography (HSG) procedure in 2015. We went on to conceive naturally on our own in 2017, despite a polycystic ovarian syndrome diagnosis and that one blocked tube on my left side. Unfortunately, we suffered a miscarriage and loss our baby, but I know that God heard my prayers for healing and to conceive on our own. He’s faithful and I’ll forever brag about the goodness of God. So, give God your faith regardless of what it appears to look like in the natural!
Having said all of that, now that you know how important it is to believe His word, trust Him, and have faith in Him, you should now begin getting prepared for the thing you’re believing for and to have someday, right? Here are 9 ways to make preparation during the wait for motherhood:
1. Keep praying for your healing against infertility (if that’s your desire), pray for God to open your womb, pray for a live, healthy, full-term pregnancy and baby (place your hands on your stomach and pray).
2. Meditate on and study the word of God to keep your faith strengthen. Faith comes and is strengthen by hearing the word of God (Romans 10:17).
3. Make a faith purchase. Buy something in an act of faith to remind yourself and spirit that motherhood IS yours. This can be anything from baby clothes to baby furniture. The options are endless. It’s all about activating your faith.
4. This coincides with number 3—plan your nursery. Think about the theme you what for your baby girl/boy‘s nursery. What colors do you want your baby’s nursery to be? How are you going to decorate it? Again, this is an act of faith to support your faith walk for motherhood.
5. This one can be really fun! Begin thinking about boy/girl names that you love. You might purchase a baby name book to help you learn the meaning of
a name, its origin, and the spiritual significance for the name. The Name Book by Dorothy Astoria is a great pick that will provide all of those things mentioned. Pray for your babies by name during your prayer time daily.
6. Make any necessary adjustment to your finances. This could look like you starting a baby fund specifically for saving money for all the things you and baby will need during pregnancy, birth, postpartum and beyond.
7. Make changes to your diet wherever you know its needed. Do you need to replace all the snacks for more fruits and vegetables. Do you feel led to give up meat and try a vegan diet, or go vegetarian or pescatarian? You and only you know what adjustments need to be made to your diet and lifestyle to assist in preparing your body for pregnancy. Do those things that are important to you.
8. Drink more water. Up to sixty percent of our human body is water. Staying hydrated and drinking more water is known to help your mood, aid in digestion, enables your hormone delivery throughout the body during fertility treatments, and can increase the production of cervical mucus for those who are ttc using Clomid.
9. Move your body. Exercise at least 3x/week. At least. This will just help get your body moving, blood flowing, and help you feel better physically, mentally, and emotionally.
If you feel led to do something else that’s not listed, go for it! The point of this is to put your faith to action and make preparations while believing God for your baby. We have to see it, before we see it! Faith believes that God will do what we can’t see with our eyes naturally. It’s a confident knowing that God will carry out his word and promises for our lives. Put your faith into action. This is a time of preparation during the wait for motherhood.
